Premier League in Europe

Liverpool defeated RB Leipzig 2-0 to advance in the Champions League with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane providing the goals just as they had in the first leg of the tie. The Reds defense was solid against the Germans with center backs Nathaniel Phillips and Ozan Kabak playing behind defensive midfielder Fabinho.  Arsenal and Spurs both won their Europa League matches this week in advance of the clubs’ derby this weekend.  Arsenal spotted Olympiakos an early goal before gunning to a 3-1 victory.  Martin Odegaard scored his first Arsenal goal with defender Gabriel and midfielder Mohamed EIneny also finding the net for the Gunners. Elneny’s goal was his fourth for Arsenal, all his goals coming in European competition.  Much maligned Willian assisted on the Gabriel goal and now leads Arsenal in assists across all competitions this season.  Harry Kane’s brace delivered a 2-0 win at home for Spurs in the opening leg of their tie with Dinamo Zagreb.  The Spurs fifth consecutive win in all competitions is their longest under manager Jose Mourinho.  Manchester United conceded an injury time goal to Simon Kjaer of AC Milan in a 1-1 Europa League draw at Old Trafford.  Poor marking by Nemanja Matic coupled with a poor effort by United goalkeeper Dean Henderson allowed the key away goal to AC Milan.  Eighteen year-old Amad Diallo scored on his first ever shot for Manchester United.
