Premier League in Europe

Champions League

Manchester City and Liverpool conclude their Round of 16 ties this week with Sporting Lisbon and Inter Milan, respectively. Manchester City manhandled the Portuguese by a 5-0 margin in their opening match and their more formidable opponent on Wednesday may be overconfidence. Liverpool has a two-goal advantage on Inter Milan entering Tuesday’s match at Anfield. Inter Milan, currently second in the Serie A table, had the potential to challenge Liverpool in their tie but likely dug too deep a hole by allowing a second goal at home in the opener between the two teams.

Europa League

West Ham has a tall task in drawing Sevilla in the Europa League Round of 16 as the Hammers head to Spain on Thursday to face the six-time winners of the competition. Sevilla is experiencing an outstanding season in domestic competition, running second to Real Madrid in the La Liga table. The Spanish club has injury concerns, however, with numerous players including former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial doubtful for the match with the Hammers. West Ham will be without forward Jarrod Bowman as they enter their most advanced stage of European competition in 40 years.

Europa Conference League

Leicester hosts Rennes at King Power Stadium in the first leg of the clubs’ Europa Conference League Round of Sixteen tie. Rennes is currently fourth in Ligue 1 on the heels of a three-match domestic winning streak. The Foxes have won two straight Premier League matches coinciding with the return from injury of striker Jamie Vardy.
